I have had 3 positive pregancy tests. The doctor is not sure how far along yet because I have PCOS and have not had a period in two months. He couldn't find a sac or a heartbeat with a sono. Has anyone had a similar experience? Is it just too early to see right now.

There are many possibilities. It could be too early to see the pregnancy via sonogram, you could have an ectopic (tubal) pregnancy or the doctor may have an outdated ultrasound machine or an inexperienced technician. I would get a second opinion with another OBGYN. I saw that someone mentioned molar pregnancy. In that case, a sac would be present, but no heartbeat. Good luck and I hope everything works out for you.

He needs to put on his list of differential diagnoses a teratoma with a placental component.
Some gonadal tumors are well differentiated enough to form the hormone. It is my understanding that Lance Armstrong's malignancy was of this type, choriocarcinoma. VERY sensitive to chemotherapies, these tumors most often are.

I also had a partial molar pregnancy, apparently fairly common. Also make sure he looks for tubal pregnancy.

No it is not too early. If you are that far along, they definitely should see the heartbeat.

My daughter had what they thought was a blighted ovum. Check that on your web browser. Hers wasn't actually a blighted ovum. They couldn't tell with the sono, so they went to the hospital for more extensive tests. The fetus had failed to grow after six weeks. It was dead, but not as yet miscarried. Finally miscarried by week 14. You might check the blighted ovum theory though. Sounds more like it.

It could be too early or you could have lost the baby. Only time will tell. Prayers coming your way.
