I think my husband has been lying to me about money. He is a compulsive gambler (recovering), but I'm worried he has started again. What are the signs that someone is lying, such as body language, etc.

TIA

I dont remember where I learned this but I think it was psychology. If you ask him where he was on a certain date and time and he has to think about it if he looks up and to the left he is lying. If he looks up to the right, he is telling the truth.

I know when my wife is lying. If you stand in front of her and ask her a point blank question, she will start to laugh if shes lying and cant look into my eyes while answering.
She also tries to be slick and use "cover everything" phrases such as "We will be alright. We will work through this" which means, "We will be alright even if we do break up and we will work through this so that I will screw you ten ways till sunday when I think how Im going to do it."
Its not what is said, but how they say it. Watch out for phrases that can be misconstrued or cover many situations.

Honey his lips are moving.
My husband thinks because of example by other men he is suppose to lie even about stupid things. I tell him when I catch him that a lie is easy to find out so he might as well tell me because if we talk it out I usually understand. It is much better than being caught in a lie and he knows that because I do not let up when I catch him lying. If he tells the truth be mature about it we are all human. Take him to something like gamblers anonymous. They have found it is easier to substitute a better behavior for a behavior that is worse. There is an associated adrenalin rush with gambling that these companies who make gambling machines and enterprises that deal in gambling understand about when a person wins. So find things that make him feel good that is not gambling like board games, electronic games, exercise, carnival rides, roller coaster rides, etc. study the subject well and understand it if he is a good man regardless. My husband does not always tell the truth about what he does with money but he does not gamble it away he buys things like live stock with it.

My ex husband had a bad gambling problem too. Does he avoid making eye contact with you? Or if he does make eye contact with you does he seem sincere, or like a deer staring into headlights.

You should follow your gut feeling, hon. It is an addiction & both of ya'll need to get therapy, I'm not saying your sick too , but people allow people they love to fall into patterns and it is hard to break them, because you love them, I know... so follow your heart and lead with love. Good luck!

He hides his wallet. Rushes home before you to get the mail and bills or banking statements.

Instead of trying to second guess him you need to take charge of the money.
