If you feel this strongly about continuing to insist to your daughter what is best for her then it would seem you have (2) choices becuase of her age and being her own guardian.

1. Depending on the state of residence it may be possible to challenge her mental capacity to be of sound mind with respect to her being her own legal guardian.

2. If the above option is not available to you and your daughter insists on this course of action, then you must accept that and make the choice to either be supportive or inform her that if she take her own path then she accepts all responsibilty for her actions against your wishes as her mother. If she goes ahead with her plans and this information, should things continue to worsen due to their own actions then you need to separate yourself from their lives until such time as they mature and become responsible and accountable.

If you don't think that she is capable of making her own decisions you should consider speaking with a lawyer to determine if it's possible to have you assigned as her legal guardian. A lawyer may be able to advise you of your options. There are homes that adults with disabilities can live in with 24-hour care providers. I worked as a care provider for four adult women who shared a home. We went to dinner and the movies on occasion and I prepared their meals and did their laundry. I considered it a great job. Now I am a school psychologist so I still get to work with a special population and I love it. Good luck to you.

Wow girl.

I believed I could give productive answers to almost any question here, but yours has me stumped.

Any attempt would be silly.

Is there any way you could gain control of your daughter's life and destiny through the court?

There are too many negatve factors influencing her path. They should be removed for her safety.

I will definately pray with you.

When you have time, send me a poem or two... no hurry.

Peace.

oh god what a night mare. you have been the BEST mother you can be but like all mothers you have to let her make her own decisions. But be real. Tell her you will support her whatever BUT... the boyfriends family calling you is UNNACCEPTABLE!!!

IF THEY CAN DEAL WITH THAT THEN THEY CAN HAVE A CHILD. poor wee girl just wants to be normal. I know it is hard but let her do her thing! Set certain boundaries which make you seem like the compromising grown up. And good luck! x

as far as i understand, people with mental retardation are not legally capable of making decisions about themselves.. if you are designated by the state as her guardian then you can always have ur say regarding her welfare.. but since she is her own guardian then all you can do is just advise and pray that she will listen...im a young mom too and i know how it feels when we see our kids making a mess of their life but thats how it is, they have to suffer whatever the consequence of their decisions and we cannot shield them all the time... just pray and put your worry to god's hand.. good luck!!

She is of age, but would think that because of her other problems that you would still be her guardian As her guardian, wouldn't you have say in where she lives and with whom? Would you be able to handle her financial responsibilities from what she gets from the government?

If I were you, I would seek out legal advise and see about becoming her guardian and keep her away from that "boyfriend". You should have done something a very long time ago, mom!

why don't you have the two of them move in with you. Then you can manage the money and keep both of them safe.
