Thank you all so much for your wonderful information and encouragement. I had it done today, no problems and truly the worst part was the prep the day before...

Thank you all so much...

Yes, I have had one and I was scared too because I am a wuss. They are not painful because you are sedated(put you to sleep). You will not even know that the procedure was done when you wake up. I understand that you are scared, but don't be. It is a simple procedure and it only takes minutes to do. The roughest part is getting the iv put in and drinking that terrible laxative that they give to "clean you out". If you have any questions please feel free to ask me. take a deep breath, relaxe, and you will be fine.

Good Luck

OH, Don't cancel!!!!!!!!!

They're aren't too bad. Like everyone said, the prep is the worst part. You just have to drink a whole lot of the stuff. My husband has had two. The first time he had a cherry flavored prep, and the second time it was unflavored. He said the unflavored was easier to drink.

As a nurse, I've seen this done. They give you lots of drugs to relax you and pretty much make you sleep. People would make tiny little moaning noises, but there was no screaming and no one appeared to be in agony. And after it's over, you won't remember it. There will be an anesthesiologist there to make sure you stay comfortable throughout the whole thing.

Get it done. I lost one of my best friends to colon cancer. He was 25.

yes i have, and no it's not painful. the night before (day) you will have to drink something or take pills all with a goal to get you cleaned out, I had to drink stuff until I pooped clear liquid - that was the worst part of the test. The next day, I went and they put me to sleep and I woke up happy and a bit woozy. Don't know a thing about the test. I wasn't allowed to drive for a day and i would have sworn i was fine but the next morning i woke up and my first thought was "wow, I was really stoned yesterday!"
Hang in there - you will be fine.

Yes, I had a Colonoscopy three years ago. I was a bit scared too, but not as scared as some because I know people who had it (my parents).

The worst part of it is the prep: drinking the stuff and cleaning yourself out. Everyone hates that part.

The procedure itself is painless because they sedate you and you're asleep.

When you wake up, you will have some gas and feel groggy from the sedative, but you'll be fine.

Relax, it will be over before you know it. They do millions of these procedures every day. You'll be fine. :)

Don't cancel! I have had two, my mother has one every 2 years, my husband just had his first one. He was really scared. But his went so smooth he couldn't believe it was over. Even when he did his prep he was fine. Years ago this procedure was a big deal today it is a walk in the park. You will feel so much better after knowing what is going on inside there. The doctor told my husband women go shopping after leaving and men go home and go to sleep. That is exactly what happened in our case. They even took pictures of my husband's colon and gave us copies.

Mine was a walk in the park!! I am only 26 and had one a couple of months ago...the worst part is the night before when you have to clean yourself out. My advice for dealing with that is simply to use vasoline (or lanolin, etc.) on your butt hole before you start the process and then reapply often, otherwise you will be really sore!!! For the actual test...they give you an IV and some meds to make you sleep. You will wake up in recovery and has some major gas (they have to inflate your bowels to see everything). Be prepared to fart a lot, you can't even get embarrassed because you can't help it and they are used to it. It really is easier than a pap test. no kidding...relax! oh ya...they give you pictures of your insides

Nothing to worry about. They will put you under in a semi conscious state so you can move around if they need you too. But you wont remember anything. Just like going to sleep. The prep is worst. You have to have a good clear out!!!!!

I have not personally had a colonoscopy, but I have had several family members that have had one. All of them said that they literally "didn't feel a thing". Your doctor should give you a medication to help you relax and the rest should be a breeze.
PLEASE don't cancel your appointment. It is very important to your health. My friend's father died from colon cancer. It would have been found if he had gone in for his colonoscopy.
Good luck, and try not to stress about it.

Oh, don't be afraid, my dad had that done about 4 months ago, I took him and picked him up. He had no problems, he was a little high when I got there though. Go and get it done, they gave him medication that really knocked him out and he is over 6 ft and 200 lbs. The fear would come from not going and finding a problem later. Please go. Good luck.
