England will never win a major trophy until the number of teams is reduced in the premiership and premiership teams do not participate in the league cup (Coca Cola). English players quite simply play to many games. By the time England play in a major competition either the European championship or the world cup the players are quite simply knackered. Italy, Spain, Germany and the South Americans (the majority of the Brazilian and Argentinian team play in European leagues) are in far better shape physically when the international tournaments kick off.

They weren't actually that bad tonight. Granted Macedonia aren't a team that are gonna win anything but they're pretty hard to score against too. Plus the team are finding their feet under a new manager.
They're probably not as good as everyone in England hopes/thinks they are, but same goes for every England team since I was a kid. They're a pretty good team and they're gonna improve - they have every chance of picking up some silverware over the next few years.

Its still early in the Competition, lets take every game as it comes, it does not pay to get over confident, thats the mistake everyone made in the World Cup. Lets see how they do at Old Trafford on the 7th October as they are only going in with one away goal advantage. I would Love England to win EURO 2008, but like I said I am not going to think its going to be a walk over.

No. I thought the performance was typical England, get a goal and retreat deeper and deeper instead of going for the kill. Marks out of 10:
Robinson - get came for a cross - 6
Neville - steady - 7
Ferdinand - steady - 7
Terry - excellent - 9
Cole- knocked one off the line, nothing else 6
Hargreaves - not so prominent - 6
Gerrard - passing not of usual standard - 6
Lampard - was he playing - 5
Crouch - did the stuff again - 8
Defoe - not international class 5
Downing - only in team because of the McLaren link- did nothing 5

It would certainly be nice and about time! There is no doubting we have the players Terry & Ferdinand look awesome together, hopefully McClaren will be able to get all the players to gel, last night they weren't too bad they got the result and that's all that matters at the moment, confidence is up and Its nice to see players playing in their correct positions (Gerrard aside) instead of trying 'to put square pegs in round holes' as Sven did....

Doubt it but how nice to see Scotland sitting top of their group and having scored more goals than anyone else but Germany. Just goes to show that the cream eventually rises to the top!!

Not if McClaren is going to continue the sterile, negative tactics that were on display last night. I thought Sven had returned..

The English disease.
The 'right' to win everything you enter only for it to go belly-up as usual.
You don't learn.
For you are the Nigels.
And the world laughs at you.
