I already have 1G PC3200 on my machine. I have a great video card, and i want to upgrade my system memory for better gaming now.

I can add another G of PC3200 for about the same price as PC4200... so what would you prefer? More slower memory or less faster memory?

i'd go with the 2gb. the difference between 1gb and 2gb is much greater than the difference between pc3200 and pc4200

You first need to be sure that your motherboard will support PC4200. If it doesn't, then spending money on the upgrade to PC4200 is pointless.
Even if it does, More is generally better than faster. Since the main purpose of RAM is to cache things from the system's hard drive (I know people will argue with me on that point, but I said main, not the only purpose)
In large part, it depends on what you are going to do with it too. I play Ever Quest II and Guild Wars. Both programs are memory hogs. The speed of my system with 1 GB of RAM vs 2 GB of ram is tremendous. Why? Because caching objects in RAM and then rendering them on screen is many times faster than having to read that same object from the hard drive every time it is rendered and then re-allocating that ram for a different object that in turn, has to be read in from the hard drive.

Stick with the same speed as your other stick. Keeps the system stable. PC4200 will be really quick but its not gona be noticeably different. 2 GB PC3200 is basically perfect for your setup.

a million. No, verify the guide on your laptop or search for for the documentation on line on the producer internet website to make certain what kind of reminiscence your gadget makes use of. 2.probably, it relies upon on the configuration of your device. it truly is going to both have 2 or 4 reminiscence slots, and also you may surely might want to eliminate it in the adventure that they are comprehensive. also do no longer ignore that reminiscence must be put in in pairs, ie 2 x 512 MB sticks for correct performance. 3.counting on how a lot you've now, and the speed of the former compared to new than convinced it can make a huge massive difference.

More mem.
BTW, the (amount and type) mem. on the videocard is much more important.
And the videocard itself (chipset).
