I was wondering why they don't put something like a dead bolt on cars so that even if they use a slim jim they can't open the door without the key to the dead bolt.

The reason I am asking is because my truck got broken into by someone using one of those slim jim type things.

What I really want to do it booby trap my truck at night with something cool so that they get a big surprise once they are inside.

Any ideas?

Thanks guys for the info about the alarms and stuff. I agree that would be best...I just want to vent and my imagination is going crazy with ideas to get back at them. It's not like I have this new truck ( she's 10 years old) and I don't have any cool stuff to steal. But she's all I have and someone violated her and now I'm just pissed off.

Weld a lock Hasp across the doors and hang a lock. Not elegant enough. Park in the garage empty out all the stuff of life you have not used in the last 6 months that should give you enough room inside. You know that place where cars and trucks go to be inside from thiefs. And you might find the back door to the house too! Do not keep valuables in the car or truck. Light up the area with motion detector lights and wire a buzzer or inside light so when the light turns you will be able to deter thiefs. 12ga justice I call it! just shoot a cracker round in the air thiefs will work somewhere else. Illegal almost everwhere! Use fire arms at your own risk.

There are a great many theft prevention devices all ready out on the market. When I went to Texas to El Paso I put my vehicle I borrowed to drive in a very safe parking lot I paid for. I also put a theft prevention lock bar between the pedal and steering wheel. These can be broken but they are an additional burden in time also the system in the car I used is electronic so it requires a pass key to use it so that is an additional hassle as opposed to going through hot wiring a car. The vehicles that make a great deal of noise tend to make people stay away from them such that they will select another vehicle to break into. Chances are this was a crack head wanting a quick sale item like cd's or your stereo system. Make some noise the fried person will go find another easier target. Go buy one of these systems.

You can always boobie trap it. You could always run a wire from the battery to the ignition and back. They'd get a jolt if they touched it. But you would have to remember it was there too. Or install a kill button attached to the starter. Then who ever tried to start you car/truck couldn't get it started until they flipped the switch. The first one, you can't get into trouble because they were already in the car/truck.

Not many ways you can protect your pride and joy these days, unless you sleep in it! Which may again, violate some laws if you do that. Laws are set up to protect those few who choose to do these things unfortunately. Let the law handle it. If you can find them! Hint: Try looking at the local Dunkin' Donuts. lol.

Get one of those alarms with the pager. Then when it goes off quitely walk out and c ock the 12 gauge your carrying. Nothing scares the crap out of someone unsuspecting then the sound of a 12 gauge pump being ******.

careful how u booby trap it, the law and the perp can go after u for damages. i know it sucks but the best thing u can do is keep all valuables out of sight. remove the face plate like it is designed to be used. boombox? keep the noise down around your neighborhood, they may folllow u and wait till dark to do tjeir damage.

Good discussion here by all. The fact remains... security and locks only keep out honest people. :(
