what is the difference between a state convention and a state legislature?

i'm studying for a gov't test, but my book doesn't have a clear definition of either one. thanks!!

The state legislature consists of the Senate and the House of Representatives.

A state convention refers to the political parties. Each party, Democrats and Republicans have conventions where they determine their agendas for upcoming elections.

I believe that is what you are referring to in your question.
