I live in the Houston area, and recently took a trip to the new neighborhood Oprah & millions of Americans built for Katrina Victims. These people have already trashed out the area...WHY?

They had to put in 300 hour on building along w/Habitat. Once the playground is built maybe the kids will have an outlet for destructive energy. I bet not all the 50 homes were trashed. Did you lump all of them together. My thought is that no one has ever taught them to appreciate a home and home upkeep. A training program may have been helpful. You can take the man/woman out of the ghetto but not always the opposite (key not working right). It' a mentality. They don't think they're worth anything and don't value their environment. They are uneducated and lack middle class values and should be given job training and made to pay part of the housing then maybe they will take more pride in it. I grew up in public housing and went on to get a job, go to college on my own, buy a nice home and keep it beautiful and the people there were not the lowest of humanity. I hate to put it this way, but my mom worked for white people and so did her mom and a different life style was introduced to me. I'm called a sell out, uncle Tom etc. but that has to become overcome. I loved reading and ignored those who made fun of me.

It's because these people are the lowest form of humanity. They are perpetual victims because it's easier to collect government benefits than to work and be a decent productive citizen. They are unappreciative of anything so they don't take care of what they are given. It won't be long before they start complaining about their living conditions and place the blame on someone else for their sorry lives.

Wow! I am so sorry to hear that. It would be wonderful if the people had really tried to make it a different area but if what you say is true it makes a statement about the gifts given perhaps too freely. That is a screaming shame!

Very simple. They are lazy and think they are owed something they dont have to earn! These very same people will blame Oprah the government and anyone but themselves. No one wants to work or put effort into bettering their lives.

People don't respect what is easily given to them. That's why are there so many on welfare who point their fingers at others all the time.

It's easy to blame someone else, it's easy to take out your anger on something, and it's easy to trash something that was handed to you without working for it.
