My understanding is that a castle is a residence that has fortifications to prevent invasion and from which the owner may rule over and protect the surrounding countryside. A palace is simply a large well-appointed residence without a defensive or protective role.

a palace is much more elegant and plush. Palaces are generally associate with places that have a sultan, for instance, and are home to beautiful things (like a harem) .a castle is usually associated with knights and battle. They are meant as a strong hold as opposed to comfort.

You should have googled. I think that a castle is more of a fortification for protection and a palace is an elaborately decorated home for royalty. (You could've even gone to the dictionary for this one.)
