depends on your budget
100-200----squier strat
200-300---Epiphone (any type is good)
if you are interested in a pack i would buy a pack(guitar, amp, picks, cable, everythign to get started) from squier or epiphone($150-400)----squier is a brand by fender but not the quality and epiphone is the same of gibson......they are both brands to get good beginer guitar to last fot a few years to see if you really want to get in to playing

Don't go cheap. Epiphone G-310 or G-400 is a good place to start. When you buy it, get it at a music store, not online. You shouldn't get your first guitar online, because there are too many ripoff artists out there. Do NOT buy your first electric guitar off Ebay, period.
Buy it at a music store and ask the guy there to "do a setup" on it. Have him adjust the action and the intonation. This means that it will play easily and play in tune. This will cost you more than ordering something online, but it also means that you will get something that is going to play well, which will encourage you to play more. There's no point in buying a cheap guitar that sounds bad and plays poorly.
Furthermore: do NOT get one of those tiny "practice amps." Get something that is going to sound decent. The Vox Pathfinder amp is a great starter amp, not expensive, and will give you a good sound.
Last but not least, get a tuner, change your strings at least once a month, and practice all the time.

dont buy anything too expensive as you dont know if youll continue to play. i personally would buy something between 150 and 200 at least but theres a lot of off brands that actually sound good my first was called carera ive still never seen another one to this day lol. go to the guitar center or whatevers near you and try em all out
