I just think it is weird and strange. How can you convince your kid not to embrace this type of a lifestyle? (I don't have any kids but sure wouldn't want them to dress like that if I had any in the future)

It's the fad of the moment. They're taking people's style and lifestyle and treating it like a phase. It makes them think they're different from everyone else, which is important when you're a teenager. For teens, its just a phase, part of their search for their true selves.

i would get involed in my own culture and hertiage
kids have to embrace something, and being gothic isnt all bad..
but it is a statement, and i dont see alot of it because i live out in the country..

Because they're Emo try hard... I dunno, its a shame, when I was a teenager we never dressed like that... its changing of the times I suppose...just like the 70's kids wore hippy gear, the 80's kids... well that was an era of clothing we would all like to forget ;) So it just goes with the times :)

Sometimes they feel like all alone. I'm kind of like emo myself and i feel like that. I don't always wear black and stuff but it's all cool. Gothic can also maybe make them feel better. It's nothing bad though.

They do it to fit in with people because making friends in mostly high school is hard, and goths accept just about anybody. Also to rebel against parents.

Some find the dark-side of it interesting and it's a way of belonging to something.

Other subgenre's are preps, skaters, gangstas, punks etc.
