im soo frustrated. i have a '06 lexus is and none of the lights inside of the car works. i took it to lexus and within the hour time period- they still couldnt find the problem. do you think it has to do with the wiring that Best Buy did when they installed my amps.. etc? I called Best Buy and they said that it shouldnt have anything to do with them because if so the radio/factoy deck wouldnt work. and my stereo system is fine- it's just my visor lights and all of the lights/alarm console doesnt work. at the dealership, they said that everytime they put a new fuse-it would blow, so something is short circuited right?
Please help! im clueless and dont think i need to pay for any of this!! lexus will have to charge me to diagnose the problem.

sorry- the thing is all of this was installed like 7 months ago. all of this light thing just started this month. lexus is saying that it could be the car's fault or the wiring done by Best Buy. Best Buy is saying that they dont even touch anything that has to do with the light fuses.
at lexus- they ran new fuses but it blew as well. i dont know what to do. who should take responsibility as far as paying. i mean the car is $$$$, i shouldnt have to deal with this.

ok- i took lmerc's advice and went to lexus to get it diagnosed. I did advise Lexus to not fix the problem until they let me see what went wrong. Turns out Best Buy was the culprit. They left all of the wires exposed. the wires underneath my back seat were exposed and sooo hot, one of them melted and could have started a fire hazard. We definitely took pictures of everything. What's more upsetting is that they left a part (which they freaking told us to buy- bass nob) they left that whole thing lying underneath the seat where all the wires were laying. I am soooo upset at them. I went ahead and let Lexus fix everything. I also paid them out of my pocket ($335). I went to Best Buy yesterday and the manager was helpful about it, but the service guy (he wasnt there at the time of installation)- said a bunch of BS like best buy does a good job, etc.... So now the stuff is all forwarded to their insurance company. I dont know what to do next except wait. any suggestions?? Im soo mad!!

Here's what you should do IMO...
Bring it back to the Lexus dealer and let them find and fix the problem, and pay the bill with a credit card if you can. BUT>>>you need to SPECIFY that you want to SEE the actual fault that is causing the problem: ie a trim screw or trim piece improperly installed and causing the fuse to blow. You also need to take a picture of the fault or ask them to take it.
If it's not related to the Best Buy installation, it's a warranty repair and there should be no charge.
If it IS a Best Buy installation problem, take all the documents, repair orders, pictures and the receipt for what you paid to fix it and contact the corporate office for Best Buy. Explain that the local store won't stand behind their work and won't pay for their errors. Demand a refund at the minimum. I assure you, you'll get results then!

Have all your ducks in a row. Make sure you have all your receipts, pictures, statements from the dealership saying best buy is at fault and why. Inform best buy that you want a full refund on the money you had to spend to have the car fixed and a full refund on the stereo installation since they didn't do it proper. If you dont get any where at store level go up the ladder. Call customer support and keep pushing. Keep metioning the words MY LAWYER and "I am going to the press with this". Next time make sure whoever is doing your stereo is certified. Crutchfield's installers are MECP Certified and they have the certificates hanging up for the customers to see. Also ask how long have they been with the company and how long they have been installing. Any body can put a stereo system in a car but are they doing it correctly and safe? Me personally, I would take the car to a respectable stereo install shop and have them check out everything best buy did. There could be more underlying problems that you haven't found yet and have them document everything too.

If an installer even nicked a wrong wire during the install, that could be the problem. It could be anywhere in the car. Even the light control switch. If Best Buy is not willing to look at the car, that is absurd. Any Car Audio Manager knows things happen. If they won't look, ask to speak to the district manager. When I worked at Circuit City, that usually got things moving. It could be the car also though. Without looking at the car, I can't know. No one really can. You can also cut all the crud and talk to a Best Buy corporate person. Ask them if the dealership corrects the problem, if they will re-reimburse you the cost.

When people do installations of stereo equipment, often they drill holes for mounting speakers, amps, and etc; Sometimes they will sink the drill bit right through a wire and cause such problems. The question you have to ask yourself is, did the lights work before you took it to best buy? If the answer is yes, then you need to have a serious talk with management at best buy. Maybe with a little encouragement they will come around and do the right thing. Someone experienced in automotive wiring can take a short finder, and pinpoint the short in a matter of a few minutes. If it is in fact the stereo people who did damage to your vehicle, then you know what you need to do legally to force them to make it right! Good Luck!

First off in a brand new Lexus only factory amps should be installed due to the computer set up of the car. Second once you installed that aftermarket amp you voided the warranty in regards to this problem. Your best bet is to have Best Buy remove the amp and then have a trained Lexus technician install the proper amp in your car with the proper wiring and fuses

You got a wire or light grounded in the circuit that the fuse is blowing. You have to put a test light in place of the fuse and hunt and disconnect till you get warm, the light will dim or go out when the ground/short is disturbed. New Lexus-wonder how many wires it would hove?
Good luck..

If it keeps blowing fuses either a wire is pinched aginst metal somewhere or the circuit is over loaded..I have a good feeling if best buy done your car when they pulled out all the molding to run your wires that they pinched a wire somewhere and that is the root of the problem... they would not have tied in to any of that wiring because amps are wired directly to the battery and the turn on wire is wired to the radio or radio fuse... IHAD A BAD EXPERIENCE WITH BEST BUY AND I BET THEY EITHER BROKE A WIRE SOMEWHERE OR PINCHED A WIRE ....E-mail me if you have any other questions.....

Sorry to say but, dumb move having Best Buy install accessories on a vehicle still under warranty. Number one they will hire any monkey who thinks they know what they are doing. Number two, you might have possibly voided part of your warranty by letting them mess with your car. My opinion, Best Buy definitely messed up your car, they know it, but just won't admit it because they will be responsible for fixing what could possibly be a serious problem they caused. Good luck.

The question is, Did you tell the Lexus Dealership you had a non-factory stereo system install? This may help them in diagnosing the problem clearly.

Your dealership needs to deal with this! A brand new car and they won't help? If they put in new fuses and the fuses blow, then they should be able to follow the trail and figure it out. That's why we pay them so much money to fix our cars. Good luck!
