it takes years of hard work to create a new OS like vista
vista is coming up after about 5 years
and all vista is an upgraded version on win XP
so support for xp/2000 will be up for a while, but for 98/ME support maybe for another year or so
so i am sure u will be good buying vista
but make sure u buy a flavour of vista u like
there is about 5 versions of vista coming out, so carefully choose wht u want
and it makes sense to buy pcs that have the logo on it tht says
WINDOWS VISTA CAPABLE
hope this helps

the thing with vista is that the hardware requirements are so high that i think i will hold off for a while until the hardware becomes less expensive
