If you could choose a superpower what would it be?

If I had a Super Power, I'd want Psychic Abilities that allow me to affect Global Trends and the News Media. I'd want to be like a "Psychic Superman" where Superman is like a Astral Projection of me.

I'd write a Psychic Software Program that acts like a hacking tool that allows me to tap into the Subconscious Minds of people just like the "Matrix" with the Matrix Agents that can override people's manual controls by going through the back end. Maybe it would be like a "Superman Software Program."

That manual override switch would allow me to influence what the World Leaders, Politicians, Celebrities, and Public figures are saying and doing so that I could move the world in a more positive direction.

I'd really love Psychic Abilities that would allow me to plug into the Electromagnetic Field generated by the Planet that would act like a Broadcast Network that is beamed into everyone's Subconscious Minds like an Unconscious Collective that everyone can hear. It would like the Hive Mind Collective on "Star Trek: The Next Generation."

I'd want my Psychic Super Powers to be like a Superman Software Program plugging into the Electromagnetic Field as if that field was like a Planet-Sized Local Area Network with people's minds like Organic Host Servers. I could then be like a Psychic Superhero :).

I'd want my Psychic Abilities to be like the Queen, which is the most powerful piece just like in Chess that is able to send instructions all around the Planet. That Electromagnetic Field would interconnect everyone's minds like Planet-Sized Brain Cells in the same way that the Electrical Field in the human Mind generates Consciousness of Thought.

In a way, I guess these Psychic Super Powers would be like being Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader where you can manipulate the Force. It would be using Electromagnetism that affects the environment on a Global Scale that can create change around the Planet and a Software Program running off the Planet as if it was a Super Computer just like in "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy."

These Super Powers would be something like the Mafia Matrix Agents. That way, when people don't want to listen to you, you can use the Matrix Agent Software Programs to override people's Conscious Minds and be able to enforce any Laws you pass so that they're taken seriously.

I'd want to program it like a Web Site where every person's mind on the Planet emits a distinctive brainwave signal that distinguishes them from the other 7 Billion brainwave signals so that it acst like an ID that you can use to track people just like MySpace does or Social Security Numbers.

Then when you've got people online who are flaming others or being rude, you can tune into their distinctive brainwave pattern and fire off Psychic Heat-Seeking Missiles that will detonate around them creating a "Karmic Backlash" that will cause mysterious "bad luck" to happen to them.

It would be neat if you could have Psychic Super Powers that makes everyone's eyes and ears act like Planetary Surveillance Cameras monitoring everything that people say and do and recording it on their minds. That way, you could tell if people are lying, cheating, and stealing. Then people will be forced to behave better and treat everyone nicely.

I'd want Psychic Super Powers where I could use Centrifugal Force from the Planet spinning on its Axis to be able to create a Scientific Heaven and Hell based off of Polarization for when people pass on. Their "Soul" would be graded by their good and bad deeds.

If they've been bad, they'll get polarized and sink to the center of the Earth like a Virtual Hell and good people will rise up to the stratosphere like a Virtual Heaven. That would make people think twice before doing mean things to other people.

If people knew that there was a Scientific Explanation for how Heaven and Hell could exist, maybe people might start behaving better because they'd be afraid of going down to Hell. If they believed that their bodies served as an anchor or weight until they pass away, they'd spend more time doing good deeds and helping people for fear of going to Hell. Maybe politicians and corrupt business people would think twice before screwing over the working class.

The fun thing about having such Psychic Super Powers is that you could make funny things happen in the Associated Press every day. It would be neat to be able to read the news and know that funny things happen or surface because of you.

The bad part about having Super Powers like that is that if something goes wrong and people know it's you, they'll blame you for what happened.

The other bad thing is that if people ever found out that I had Super Powers like that, it would make my family and loved ones targets for kidnapping and blackmail. They may try to get at me by holding the people I care about hostage.

The other bad part is that if people ever found out I had Super Powers, they may stalk me or camp outside my house just like they did with Neo in "Matrix Reloaded."

The most obvious bad thing with having Super Powers is that the Paparazzi would be lurking around my house trying to get pictures of me. I'd most likely lose my anonymity.

Maybe one of the things that could be an aspect of having Super Powers is where nobody knows your identity kind of like James Bond. It's where you can walk among people without them knowing and because you have Super Powers that tap into people's Subconscious Minds, no one would ever know allowing you to remain hidden.

So far I have went through all the answers provided and to be frank mostly are about for self gain. I had answered a similar question before by another yahoo user and I told him this.

"If God gave me a choice of "Gift" that I would want is the power to heal any form of disease or illness and to restore what had been taken away(such as amputated leg)at will.. This Gift would at least lessen the burden of humanity . A gift is best used for the good of all not for one's own abuse."

I know that some people would want the "Gift" or ability to restore Life to the Departed but I do not think that would be wise as Fate depicts the length of Life time given. To change that is to go against the Will of Higher Power.

The powers of mortality. Life and death.

Pros: You have a villain, a nemesis, bad guy, no more flashy lightning, flames, etc. Just make them die. Just like that. And you could resuscitate anyone. Stop death in its tracks, prevent death, suspend life..... Anything. PLUS it'd have a kick*ss outfit.

Cons: To have that power you would need to not be living or dead, to be both. Like a zombie or a ghost... Except never dead in the 1st place.... The delicate balance of mortality wouldn't be a thing to mess with if you didn't know what you're doing and could have devastating consequences...

Do any of you wtach "The 4400" series? Now that's a VERY good inspiration for super-powers. I woul like to have the power Alana has. It's the power of imagining worlds and dilating time. I would just touch the temples of my beloved and we could go ANYWHERE and do ANYTHING. No limits in space and time. And in 5 minutes we could live 10 happy years. We would be immortal in our own world. We could do anything. Our love would really be eternal. And we wouldn't upset God because we would still be bound to mortality. Just imagine... It would be perfect. Nothing out of the ordinary (like reading minds and flying...). Just having the ability to have all the together time we want. It would be beyond any other wish...

I would want the ability to be anywhere I wanted instantly. That is way better than being able to fly, or to be invisible. The reason I would want that is so I could instantly be there for my kids and grand kids, save time and money for travel. Just think, I could sunbath in hawaii for my lunch break, be able to say goodnight to my grand kids or babysit them when needed. Right now they are like 8 hours away by car and I would like to see them more often.

I would have the ability to teleport myself and anyone else i touched from one place to the other. that way, i wouldn't have to sit in traffic all day and spend lots of money on gasoline. i would never come into class late and sweaty from running up 3 flights of stairs. i could sleep until 7:59 am for all my 8 am classes! if i was bored being in one club, i could transport myself and a friend to another club w/o risking a DUI or paying to get into the club! (and there's a million other things that teleportation would come in handy with, but my fingers are getting tired!)

the only downside to this power is if it were ever discovered. then they might lock me up in some government laboratory and use me for their experiments. (creepy.)

See super powers are one of those hard things to decide..everything has its adcantage and disadvantage....like me personally immortality would be awsome the downfall...everyone around me i know and love would die and i will still be around...but hey its not so bad after awhile you would get used to it and most likely live life as some rich aristocrate "killing" myself every 60-70 years passing the money to some random person ofcourse my new life and just go through the years seeing everything.

i have given this some thought and decided that my choice would be the ability to achieve total enlightenment. to know and understand all the mysteries of the universe, and to be able to utilize them to gain power. i would be above good and evil because i would be able to understand their role in the scheme of things. everything would become perfectly clear and i would never have a doubt or question about anything ever again. no one would ever be able to surpass my understanding, giving me control over everyone and everything. the only con i can possibly come up with is...once you know all, what else is there to gain?

I think that the super power that i would want is to be able to fly and telekinesis... Pros about it would be you can get anything wiht out gettting up and also for flying it would be taht you can get to any place fast. The cons about it... For flying getting too much atention and pretty much for telekinesis as well.
