It is a derived unit since it is figured out using aa base unit. here are the base units for SI measurements.

A cubic centimeter is a derived unit because it is made up of one of the basic units. In dimensional analysis the basic unit is length (L). A cubic centimeter can be expressed as L^3.

The other basic units are mass (M), time (t), temperature (T) and charge (C).

It is derived (aka comes from) from the SI unit of length, the meter. They use that unit as a basis to get to the cubic centimeter for volume. :D
