Oncology is the branch of medicine that deals with cancer. Hematology is the branch of medicine that involves diseases and problems with blood. Often times they are lumped together and called Hem-Onc (pronounced heem-onk).

Oncology is the study of cancer medicine, including but not limited to chemotherapy. Hematology is the study of blood disorders, some of which are a lot like cancer. Hematology and Oncology are studied together as a specialty in medicine. Radiation Oncology, the use of radiation to treat cancer, is a separate field.
