chicago IL is growing to be americas best tourist attraction. well i just move out here from london, can anyone please help me understand how it became like that, and all the process about the buildings the tourist atractions and the economics.

Chicago has been a great city and tourist attraction for decades. I grew up there and I always remember lots of tourists downtown. Now with Mayor Daley "gentrifying" the north side and cleaning up the neighborhoods, and the refurbishing of Navy Pier, it attracts even more tourists than ever.
It's been a gradual process that has taken many decades.
