Agroraphobia is a very dibilitating phobia, it stopy you from interacting with the outside world, and in extreme cases like my wifes it even makes her too scared to answer the phone, even to friends. She can not talk to people or answer the door to family, and even seeing someone walk down the road makes her panic.

So can you imagine being claustrophobic as well, you would be terified of going out and terified of stopping in. this must be the definition of HELL.

What would you rdefinition be?????

she has seen a councillor who helped a bit but then left, she was refered to another councillor who said she cant have agrophobia or she couldnt have got to counciling. She didnt see the state she was in just working up the courage to walk out of the door and into the car. The councillors dont make house calls in our area.

if she has the courage to try again after these hits and setbacks she might try specifically a Person-Centred counsellor, ie one who will try to understand her from her own way of thinking and not from these labels that psychologists have made up that try to put people in categories.

Your wife sounds like my mother, bar the answering of the phone. I have to go everywhere with her, as she feels her legs are going to give way and she feels like she'll pass out. The only place she can go is to the local supermarket, as there are trolleys there, as she has to hold on to one of them. Sometimes, like your wife, she won't answer the door. She does drive occasionally and I'm glad she can. She will NEVER go out of the house without a pushbike, her car or a person. I strongly advise that your wife learns to drive, if she doesn't already. It's the most debilitating disorder I know, that and my own social phobia.
Maybe your wife and my mother can get together - LOL.

No agoraphobia is the fear of being in open or public spaces. Claustrophobia is the fear of small confined spaces. There is a happy medium if you live in a place that is spacious enough to accommodate the Claustrophobia.

Yeah, that sounds like it would be a really bad combo to have to live with on a day to day basis. Has she seen a doctor about her conditions? Perhaps there is medication and/or counseling that might help her.
