Think about it
- chairs might not be very comfortable
- cars wouldn't be aerodynamic
- you wouldn't know which bathroom to use if you were in a foreign country and couldn't read
- all the books in the book store would look the same (egads - you'd have to read every prologue to know which one you wanted!)
- you'd have to stop and read every cereal package instead of immediately identifying Frosted Flakes from Puffed Wheat (gyaaah!)
- teapots would probably spill every time you poured
- buildings would all be gray boxes with no character, some of the rooms may not even have doors

These and a million others I haven't thought of are all designed by artists.

Design is in everything we use, everything we see.
Architecture is design.
Transportation requires engineering design.
Roadsigns, billboards, poster ads.
Even disposable paper cup are conceptualised through design.

Better designs make life better.

Designs help motivate, inspire, reinforce, even deter.

Some harmonious designs help reinforce my desire for order and harmony.

Other designs help me to vent or emote my rage, my sorrows, my despair, my erotic passions and hungers.
