Could be quite a few things. You could be losing your internet connection, your security settings are set too high, you have a virus, you have problems with internet explorer, etc....

OPEN YOUR DOS PROMPT IN START MENU IN WINDOWS AND TYPE IN THIS WITHOUT THE QUOTES AND ADD THE NAME OF THE WEBSITE YOU ARE TRYING TO ACCESS SUCH AS "PING ADELPHIA.NET" OR "PING MSN.COM"
IF IT COMES BACK WITH PACKET LOSS OR CANNOT CONNECT TO SERVER, YOU HAVE A DEAD CONNECTION TO THAT SITE. TRY IT WITH SEVERAL DOMAINS AND SEE IF IT IS WITH ALL OF THEM. IF SO, THEN YOU HAVE A BAD INTERNET CONNECTION. IF ONLY THE SITE YOU ARE TRYING TO REACH, IT MAY BE DOWN FOR MAINTENANCE.

I get this occasionally, especially after a power cut. It affects the power supply to the broadband modem, and it doesn't power up for another 72 hours.

Check the power supply to your connections, and make sure the connections aren't loose or faulty.
