The best thing is not to allow them get installed to begin with. Pop-up blockers keep them from showing, but do not stop them from getting on your computer.

Internet Explorer is the default browser on almost all new PCs. Don't use it! Even on a fully updated install of Windows XP, many websites will install programs WITHOUT YOUR KNOWLEDGE. These programs are commonly referred to as 'spyware' or 'malware'. Internet Explorer is responsible for most of the computer problems we see. Really. The average home PC is home to 10, 20 or more separate spyware 'infestations'.

The solution is simple: just download and use a different web browser. We like Mozilla Firefox (free download - mozilla.org), and Opera is also good (and free). You can visit all the same websites with Mozilla Firefox without having to worry about spyware. Also, these alternate web browsers have more features than IE, like tabbed browsing and popup blocking. (Please note Firefox won't remove spyware that is already there. Spyware infestations usually require expert help and sometimes even a complete reinstall of Windows.)

We operate a computer repair shop and see this all the time.

Do you have pop up blocker? Get Yahoo tool bar and it come free with it. If you have pop up blocker, is it turned on? Be careful of what you scroll over with your arrow as this will cause pop ups that you didn't want too. There are a lot of programs out there for this that you can buy such as McAfee Security Center that has all of these rolled into one package. Good Luck!

Try downloading Ad-Aware SE to get rid of some cookies. It's a free program. If I start getting pop ups I just run this and they stop.

hi, i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. which is the most powerful in popup blocking.

besides, firefox can block any any poppus and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE. as you know, most of the virus is spread throught internet and webpage.

firefox is much smaller than IE, so i run faster than IE.

download firefox for free:
