Gravity is a scientific discovery because Newton used teh scientific method to quantify it. He noticed something, hypothesized, tested it and then analzyed the results.

To me the greastet discovery / invention ever is the printing press. Technology growth was limited on who knew what. After the press education could be "mass produced" and this led to exponential growth of knowledge...similiar to how the web has helped us all.

Penicillin, easily it is the most far reaching and helpful discovery ever. Gravity is scientifically rediscovered. I know school says Newton was first but, archeology contradicts this. Library Of Alexandria. Most science since the Catholics destroyed it an sainted the man who burned has been a process of rediscovery.

That's a really, really good Question. It's probably not something any one person can answer, either, because science/technology affects all of us differently. Some people may rely on (for example) medical science to allow them to lead normal lives; others may rely on other areas of science...not because they need the technology to survive, but because they earn their living researching and developing the technology.

Things like gravity and electricity are not discoveries, per se; they existed all along. It took the work of some brilliant person (like Isaac Newton) to "discover" how these phenomenon worked, and to scientifically explain the "mechanics" of things.

Up to this point in time, I believe that one of the greatest discoveries lies in the smallest of places; namely, genetic mapping/genome research. The potential in these fields is enormous (like figuring out how to eliminate or disable the genes responsible for cancer). When this research comes to fruition (ie, scientists can accurately define, isolate and manipulate disease-causing cells), the impact on humanity will be enormous.

Muslim scientists have made a lot of contributions in technology. Take a history classification or take 2 seconds to google it. Muslim international locations in recent times additionally do a lot of scientific study, too. so some distance as Islam and the Qur'an is going...the scientific info in the Qur'an have been previous to its time so silly disbelievers constantly laughed it off. Then whilst they found it out empirically, of direction Muslims who were asserting those issues for 1000's of years did no longer get the credit... (e.g ants talk by sound, halocline, and so on...) there is yet yet another discovery that scientists will at last discover out, yet Muslims have been asserting perpetually: "human beings and apes do no longer share a hardship-loose ancestor." it is the beautiful undertaking approximately technology, it is dynamic and constantly changing. Mankind basically hasn't caught up with ISLAM yet. Do you think of whilst scientists comprehend that human beings and apes do no longer share a hardship-loose ancestor that they are going to accredit the seeking to the QURAN and MUSLIMS who knew this time-honored? Nope! precisely what's been happening in the previous.

The greatest scientific discovery is the discovery of the greatest scientific discovery.

I would have to say electricity was the greatest scientific discovery ever. Without electricity we would still be quite far back in time.

As for gravity, I wouldn't say Newton necessarily discovered it, rather he just gave it a name and a classification.

i would say im not sure if gravity is a scientific discovery...im sure we could have gone on without it(the discovery not the actual gravity lol)...but id have to say electricity is the BIGGEST discovery...when was the last time u went a day without using it????

While there are a lot of really good answers, I'd say the discovery of penicillin might be the greatest, in that it has saved so many lives that otherwise would have been lost to disease.
