It's not about Mexicans coming to live in the States and bla bla bla. So let's not go there.

Does anybody get that:

"If Mexicans can come in and out as they please. How about terrorists."

That's why we need to close our borders and secure it.

Any thoughts on that?

The US-Mexican border is 2,000 miles long. The US-Canadian border is 4,000 miles long (including along Alaska.)

Then, of course, there are the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, and the Gulf of Mexico.

From globalsecurity.org :

Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff has said a wall running the length of a border would cost too much. A 2,000 mile state-of-the-art border fence has been estimated to cost between four and eight billion dollars. Costs for a wall that would run the entire length of the border might be as low as $851 million for a standard 10-foot prison chain link fence topped by razor wire. For another $362 million, the fence could be electrified. A larger 12-foot tall, two-foot-thick concrete wall painted on both sides would run about $2 billion.

Tunnel passages across an international border into the United States have become a real problem. There are 40 such tunnels that have been discovered since 9/11, and the great bulk of them are on the southern border. Large-scale smuggling of drugs, weapons, and immigrants takes place today through these tunnels. One tunnel running from San Diego to Tijuana was marked by inordinate sophistication. It was a half mile long. It went 60 to 80 feet deep, 8 feet tall. It had a concrete floor. It was wired for electricity. It had drainage.

The California entry into the tunnel was a very modern warehouse, a huge warehouse compartmented but empty and kept empty for a year. In one office there was a hatch in the floor. It looked much like the hatch which Saddam had secreted himself in. But lifting that hatch disclosed a very sophisticated tunnel. It went under other buildings all the way across the double fence into Mexico and up in Mexico in a building as well.

Walls can be defeated. After WW1, France built the Maginot Line to protect it from future German invasions. In 1940, the German Army simply went around it and invaded France by way of Belgium and Luxembourg.

Security and safety are relative. They can never be absolute. Don't kid yourself.

Truth is what is war fought over?Hell ow ,borders. If there was no more such a thing as building a fence to keep your neighbour out. There would be nothing more to fight over. But as far as the terrorists go ,why are you afraid of them. The nation I am a part of is peaceful nation in a world thats gone totally out of control and somebody has to do something about it before long.Is there anybody with me?I ASKED A QUESTION,it was/Do you want to see the word of GOD FULFILLED right before your eyes. The respose was out of the whole wide world only three people answered that question and you wonder why the world is in the state its in.Not to good at all before the ALMIGHTY GOD

Na. Now let's talk about the technology. Besides. The Mexicans got that too. So do the Cubans. It's the parts replacements that does 'em in. Don't worry about it. Pretty soon, no kind of politics or any other type of concern is going to be a problem.

there was a special on one of the news channels about that , it was interesting to see the national guard, civilians, and border patrol. trying to help. but the president needs to do more, a lot more. you do need to feel sorry for the people that only want to make a better life for themselves. but not the drug traffickers.it
stated that most of the resturants in the country would not run as well as they do without the immigrants. who would cut the lawns, put on the new roofs, pave the driveways, they do a damn good job and work hard for the crappy money that they get paid. if the immigrants could only do it the legal way we wouldnt have to worry about this.

We don't have the guts to secure our borders. It takes force, and we don't have the guts to do that in our own country because of the media, lawyers, and bleeding-heart sympathizers.

As long as the wealthy are more interested in cheap labor than in our security, that aint gonna happen.
