2 hurricanes have cleared workers from oil platforms, Alaskan oil field is shut down and there is no new oil from overseas. Even though oil has been discovered in the gulf it will be 3 years to bring it to market, so this is not a factor..........................
Can any one offer any other plausible reason for the drop?

Absolutely! Positively! The Cheney administration manipulates the price of gasoline every day, playing a shell game with the American motorists. If it's up to $3.00 a gallon, we're happy as hell when it drops to $2.75. It will continue to remain low right up until the mid-term elections. If Republicans win, the price of gas will soar so Cheney's oil buddies can recoup the profits they lost while helping him retain GOP power. -RKO-

well, maybe due to the fact that some demand is down since the holidays have passed (vacations)and there is a stock pile so to speak because the refineries are producing the winter blend which means they have to get rid of the summer blend(this one still puzzles me..damn e.p.a.)
by the way the alaskan producers have not shut down..the news was maintenance on the line was desperatly needed and they were gonna shut them down(of course at the last minute they fixed 'em)so they're still operational and no i think the oil prices have nothing to do with the elections but a lot to do with greed and the gold standard to the us dollar
