I went on vacation last weekend to a place that had alot of African Americans.. now, there are African Americans where I live, but I went to Conneticut, and they were the majority of the city I was in. That was cool, I have no problem with African Americans at all.. but they were all rude to me.. I bought something at the Target there.. and the cashier ( who was African American ) treated me like crap because I was buying something.. like it was my fault she worked at Target.. it was like that everywhere I went.. Why?

It's not that they are black. It's because they are in Connecticut and everyone there is snooty, even Target cashiers. I had car trouble there once and you would have thought that I was trying to steal their children when I asked if there was a pay phone nearby I could use(I was at a gas station, not knocking on doors or anything). I know we're all supposed to have cells but geeze, I just forgot mine at home. I think they have an inferiority complex because they're not New Yorkers but they're not far enough away to really be pure New England either.

Possibly she was having a bad day. Maybe they were all having a bad day. You went to a place where you don't live, and expcted the same cultural norms prevalent in your hometown to exist in a totally different environment from your own.

Maybe the rudeness of the cashier had nothing at all to do with you. She probably had rang up a few hundered items besides your own before you walked into the store. She was probably tired by the time you came in and didn't feel like making every customer's day bright.

Like you, I wish that service employees were always in a happy mood- but they aren't, because they are people too, and they have mood swings and events happen in their lives, too.

Maybe it has little to do with the fact that they're African American, and you're obviously not- but more to do with the socioeconomic situation they're in, their cultural norms, or how they reacted to you.

Don't take their actions personally.

Yo chill out. Maybe this is because Americans can treat African Americans like "crap" and they don't like it, so they could be mad at us for being racist to them or something. Instead, they start treating us like "crap" and being racist to Americans or white.
