Do you drink enough good quality water? Do you apply over the counter moisturisers, creams, lotions etc...if you are applying these over the counter creams, did you know that they are loaded with highly toxic chemicals that are damaging to you skin? They can cause you all manner of skin problems, even down to the kind of shampoo and conditioner you use, as it is hard to stop the soap from making contact with your face. Also all junk foods (that includes all manufactured and processed foods) and soda, cordials, anything diet, lite, fat free, etc) contribute to having pimples. You could try applying 100% pure coconut oil (it only takes 3-4 drops) I recommend Nui (pronounced New) brand, coconut oil is non greasy, and has antibiotic properties, it is expensive but it works.

Proactive does work and it is expensive. There's another product though, the same as Proactive. They have it at Walgreens, it's called Klearaction. Identical to proactive but costs a lot less. $19.99.
My daughter had bad acne, she used it once and her face was at least 50% better. No kidding. Completely clear in 30 days.

Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine - Murray & Pizzorno - has an excellent chapter on acne and how to deal with it. Check for a copy at your local health food store or library

Try using Queen Helene Mint Julep Mask it works better than creams and shrinks pores...It works best if you leave it on over night.

i dont know what will work for you, but be careful about what you put on your face! I used proactive and murad and broke out worse than before because my skin was sensitive to sylasylic acid and benzoyle peroxide. I only wish i saw a doctor before using them...you should too!
