Devestated. I thought if there ever was an accident though, it would have been a crocodile. Just proves that no matter how well you know something, like he did hisself, it can still happen. What killed him though was something that he loved and tried to protect. It's a major loss. He should be remembered though, in all parts of the world. He was a icon, hero, and a great person. They keep talking on tv though about this guy that invented the artificial heart, so why couldn't they bring him back? It's already been said that the vemon wasn't the cause of his death, it was the hole.

We all expected that he will die by being bitten by a snake or maybe because of his enthusiastic behaviour the croc might kill him. But that did not happen. He was killed by a stingray. That too when it was not his fault at all. He was just watching it when the barb went straight through his heart. When I heard the news, I was just shocked. I tried not to cry, but couldnt stop myself. I loved him so much. He was great( No need to tell u his great deeds). I miss him very much. I wanted to meet him one day- but now its all over. Its really very sad that we lost a jewel( A diamond for us all)

I thot it was some kind of joke, as I heard it while chatting on the internet.
Then as I thot it might be for real, I went to CNN.com and checked it out. I felt my heart just sink, and was in shock and disbelief. I wanted to wake up from what seemed like a horrible dream.
I kept thinking to myself "no...this is NOT real...it can't be"! The full reality hit me over 12 hours later. At that time I just cried, and the tears kept coming every time I thot of him and his family.
I am starting to come to terms with it now, a few days later, as I focus on the positive aspects of this wonderful person; it is obvious that he has affected and touched so many people thru out the world. His Wildlife Warriors site was so flooded I could not get into it for over a day. He has given wildlife awareness a tremendous boost. We will miss him Very much!!

Sucker punched. The guy is, or was, a nut; but he was my kind of nut. He loved what he did, as his parents did and hopefully as his wife and children will continue to do.

The thing that really surprised me was that he was killed in such a freakish accident involving minimal danger. I've swum with various rays before and they're really serene. They like to be petted. I've heard that the camera crew startled it and that Irwin just got hit in the only place where it would cause death when the ray sort of bolted.

Since then I've heard people who knew him say that he'd always thought if he got killed, it would be in the ocean as it really wasn't his usual element. I think he was referring more to sharks and that he'd be as amazed at these circumstances as everybody else is.

Still, I know it sounds bad, but I can't help but imagine that his last thought was something along the lines of, "Crikey! Look at the barb on this stingray's tail!"

I was shocked at first but realised that his job involved handling dangerous animals so it was only a matter of time. he died the way he would have wanted to. He was a play hard type of guy and will be missed here in Australia, we lost an Ozzie icon

Very shocked and sad. He was an amazing person, a wonderful husband and father, and a great conservationist and animal expert. A true modern day hero for children all over the world.

I had first heard that he died...didn't hear how. I didn't believe it at first, but when I flipped over to a story on the AP....and seen his picture...I was shocked, then sad.

I wasn't a great big fan, but he did entertain me from time to time. I also know he did wonderful work for animals of all kinds.

It is a terrible loss. But he chose that profession knowing how dangerous it could be. I can't really say that I was shocked to learn how he died. You can't do that type of work and not expect to get hurt or killed.

My heart goes out to Terri and the kids.

it way tragic. he died when a manta ray stabbed him through the heart with it's back stinger, killing him instantly. he was shooting for a new series in the Great Barrier Reef, a kid's show, with his 8 year old daughter. we can honestly say that he died doing what he loved to do, wrestling with the wild life of Australia. we'll miss you, Steve Irwin. national icon, crocodile hunter, hero.
