Did anyone ever notice the string or wire coming from Mister Ed's mouth and up on the inside of his harness? I notice the harness moves when it appears that someone is pulling on the string/wire. I also noticed a string/wire running down from his head between his front legs. I can see an indentation in Ed's chest every time it is pulled when the lightning and position is just right. So I'm more likely believe it is a fine string or wire that is causing his lips to move when the string/wire is pulled on. I can most certainly see where this setup would cause strange feelings for a horse causing the lips to move. The lighting and position of Mister Ed makes the string or wire pretty noticeable.

I have heard 2 theories to that. I have heard that a bunch of peanut butter was placed in his mouth causing him to move his mouth looking like he is talking. The other is there is food placed over his head just off camera and he is smelling it causing his lips to move. I am not sure of the actual way they did it.

Mr Ed was actually taught to move his lips on cue.

put something on his lips or tongue, like peanut butter. he has to move his mouth to get it off.
or chew on apples or something.
