yes i know its a stupid question, considering all the literature that i've looked through, they all seem to suggest that your at higher chance of conceiving the days before and the days after ovulation, but what if its the exact same date?

The chances you are conceiving on the exact date you ovulate are extremely high. The chances of conceiving if you had sex on the day of ovulation are lower but still there, since by then the timeframe you're working with is lower. The chances of conceiving if you had sex after ovulation is relatively non-existent, since your egg is probably dead and gone by then.
Here's why:
Conception occurs when the sperm enters the egg, correct? A woman's egg can live 24hrs from the time of being released, a man's sperm can live 72hrs from the time of ejaculation, but there is a necessary timeframe for the sperm to travel to the egg. The reason that intercourse should happen before ovulation is that the egg's lifespan is so short and the sperm's lifespan is so long that the best chance for "success" is to have intercourse in the days prior to ovulation, since the sperm have 3 days or so where they can live - waiting for the egg.
If you have intercourse in the days prior to ovulation and the sperm are sitting their waiting for the egg, then you can conceive on the day of ovulation b/c the sperm will enter within 24 hrs, the lifespan of the egg, and coincidentally, one day.

You could concieve anywhere from 5 days before you ovulate,the day you ovulate and the day after ovulation. According to my clearblue easy fertility monitor. Hope this helps.
