Vertigo (1958). It's an incredible artistic masterpiece, richly textured and arranged with remarkable precision, and it is Alfred Hitchcock's most profound (it is a complex examination of romantic pathology) and personal work (it is used to show Hitchcock's obession with transforming actresses to fit his parts). The film deals with themes of love, death, guilt, obsession and insanity, and it features highly inventive and creative camera angles, surreal and dream-like cinematography, vibrant San Francisco scenery, a hauntingly-beautiful and unconventional musical score from the legendary composer Bernard Herrmann, and a frightening, career-best performance from the terrific actor James Stewart.

"The Third Man": Orson Welles, bombed out Vienna, zither music, shadowy sewers and the guy doesn't get the girl in the end. Wonderful for a late Friday night.

"Abel Gance's Napolean": One of the most incredible films I have ever seen-and it was made in 1917 and is silent. If you want to feel(!) the force of political idealism and want to see the emotional power of political belief, all laid out for you in a masterpiece of early filmaking-see this film.

"Fanny and Alexander": One of Ingmar Bergman's greatest movies. The exploration of religion and the soul.

"Fitzcarraldo": Dream the impossible dream! Build an opera house in the deepest, darkest amazon or die trying. Human quest for immortality, beauty and fame played out in improbable circumstances.

"Solaris" by Andre Tarkovsky-Spooky examination of guilt and a society w/o God that doesn't understand itself, all played out on a space station hovering above a living planet that is creating clones out of the memories of the hapless scientists sent there.

"Pelle the Conqueror"-Poverty and class war visible in the wonderful acting of Max von Sydow.

"Straw Dogs"-Dustin Hoffman learns that men must fight for peace in a small English town.

"Waking Life"-Beautiful animation, ponderous dialogue, eternal questions about the nature of reality.

Also, I loved the two movies:"Before Sunset" and Before Sunrise." They haunted me, touched my heart and made me believe that love was still possible.

It's a chick flick for sure, an oldie but a goodie - Steel Magnolias. It has Julia Roberts, Dolly Parton & Sally Field. It's been my favourite since i was young.
Also - 'Cinderella Man' i loved.
And a new one called 'Grandmas Boy' is hilarious!!

Check out "Eternal Sunishine of the Spotless Mind," it got great reviews but was really overlooked because it was Jim Carrey but not a flat out comedy.

'Titanic'. Beautiful romance story. Or, if you like action, 'Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves'. Also 'Bruce Almighty'. Really funny.
