I just read the featured question about what life would be like if there was no poverty and education for all, and when someone answered "Then who would work at McDonald's or do our nails" I was very offended. Those jobs are respected because at least, from what we can assume since they work, they have pride in their work.

I don't see a reason to. I held a blue-collar job this summer; I worked my butt off and met some of the coolest people that I never would've met otherwise. They're people too! I totally agree with you about being offended. Jobs like McD's and the one I worked at are the kinds of jobs that get people back on their feet and out of the welfare system, which not only helps our country's economy, but also creates such a difference in the people who are now working. There's pride of place, and dignity, and that makes living conditions in families soooo much better! Yeah, the actual job might kind of suck, but there's nothing wrong with the people doing it!

You are absolutely right. When I go to any business place, I always notice the people who do a fantastic job. I admire and respect them, no matter what the job is.

I see no reason at all to look down on those who have a job perhaps lesser paying than ours. My goodness, I suppose they are doing the very best that they can. That does not make a person any less than us.

And you were perfectly right to be offended. It's prejudiced. "Only uneducated people work at McDonald's" is just as bad as "All blacks are ______"
