My family wants to get an iMac, and now that they're cheaper and better as of the last day or two, I'm getting really excited! We'll probably get the 17" w/SuperDrive, upgrade to 2GB's of RAM, and pre-install iWork- it comes to about $1600 Canadian. We'll also wait until Leopard comes out (this spring at the latest), so we get the new OS.
But before we jump into this, I want to hear your opinion: give me the pros and cons of the iMac.

The iMac is a great machine. It takes up very little desk space, is quiet, and very powerful. Leopard will be nice, but Tiger is a great OS with many useful features no other OS has, or is likely to have. I don't know if I'd bother waiting another six months just for Leopard when Tiger is already the best OS on the planet.

Plus, the Mac OS has at least 15,000 applications that run on it, not counting the tens of thousand of Unix applications you can run.

While PowerPC apps do run slower on it than their universal or Intel apps, they still run about as fast as they did on the old PowerPC machines.

Changing processors on an iMac isn't possible, but it will be a long time before the Duo 2 Core is obsolete. Adding RAM or external hard drives is a snap.

Pros:

1 Good Multimedia Experience
2 It looks a LOT better than XP
3 Comes included with a multimedia suite; not a trial version
4 Its all in one
5 It does Windows

Cons:

1 The universal apps run slower when using Intel Macs because of the technology that does something so its compatible, but there are software that is being optimized for Intel
2 Not much software
3 I've heard its hard or impossible to upgrade, I don't know.
4 In Mac OS X mode, there is much less software than there is for Windows

Anyways, its pretty good.
