I don't like science fiction, fantasy is okay(I've read Spiderwick and Narnia Chronicles). Some of my favorite authors are Meg Cabot, Sharon Creech, Megan Shull, Judy Blume, Blue Balliott, Edward Eager.

It's been a long time since I was a young adult ;), but I would recommend the Anne of Green Gables series. I also like anything by Roald Dahl (he even has short stories for adults). I like Greek myths, too. I was always a huge Judy Blume fan, as well.

Well even in young adult books - it still depends on your age. These books are some that my teens (15 & 17) have read:
Pride & Prejudice, Cold Sassy Tree, Memiors of Geisha, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, A Walk to Remember, Alchemist....... (these would be appropriate for a younger girl except for Memiors of a Geisha)
Some light reading books they like: (some of these may be to old for you):The Gossip Girls series, The A List series, The It Girl, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (for a younger girl - Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants)
If you are younger - these would be great/they are still appealing to me - and I am an adult):
The Anne of Green Gables Series by LM Montgomery (although I read this in my adulthood and absolutely loved it!
Up a Road Slowly by Irene Hunt
Summer of My German Soldier by Bette Green

read Sherlock Holmes (detective series) Arthur Conan Doyle
follow the world renown detective together with his assitant Dr. Watson as they unravel hidden mysteries & solve puzzles.
also books by Agatha Christie is recommended if you are into detective stories.
Oliver Twist, Great Expectations, Hard Times (& many more) -Charles Dickens. just to name a few of the books by the Victorian novelist Charles Dickens who portrayed the life of his times in to stories turning them in to well known classics.
Time Machine , War of the worlds (where Martians attack Earth ) are some good science fiction reading by a famed scientist named H.G. Wells.
also try books by Arthur C. Clarke & Jules Verne (Journey to the Centre of the Earth, 20,000 Leagues under the Sea, Around the world in 80 Days)if you like science fiction.
books come in different varities so if you could mention which type you're looking for it'll be easier to name them.
e.g. Historical novels (Three Musketeers -Alexander Dumas, Les Miserables (both set in France), A Tale of Two Cities - Charles Dickens (set during the time of the French Revolution), fantasy stories (books like Willie Wonka & the Choclate Factory, Matilda, & other stories by Roald Dhal) or adventure.
hope this helps & happy reading.
if you need more details just let me know.

The Tomorrow Series - by John Marsden (Australian author) I still read them, over and over again and I'm 27 now. Actually, anything by John Marsden is good. I started reading his work in high school. If you're into scary sort of books, Christopher Pike is kind of the Stephenh King of young adult books as well.

Rebecca by Daphne DuMaurier is a good one as it is kind of a love story and mystery. When you can't think of any current new books to read it's always good to go back and read some classics - Catcher in the Rye, Tale of Two Cities, The Picture of Dorion Grey, Wuthering Heights etc.
