What's the story?

Please, it doesn't count if you only refrained from killing someone, like you could have run over the pedestrians in the crosswalk but didn't. (I know it sounds silly to specify that, but we've all seen the dumb answers people post.)

I stopped a friends horse from bleeding to death...
It came in from the field with a huge wound, which had severed an artery, in it's leg. I applied a ligature and pressure bandages whilst everyone else ran around like headless chickens. I must admit, there was an awful lot of blood. By the time the Vet arrived, I had the horse ready to travel, the horse box was on the way to take it to the Veterinary hospital and the kettle was on ready to provide the Vet with a cup of tea. The horse went on to make a full recovery...

I was at a dance. I had just taken a course in CPR 2 weeks earlier. A lady in the far back corner of the room collapsed to the floor. She had a heart attack. I don't remember crossing from one corner of the room to another but I brought her back. The ambulance seemed to take forever to get there. When I went to see her a few days later at the hospital with another friend at the dance. She yelled at me to get out and screamed that I should have let her die. I told her it was her choice to respond and to stay, she still had work to do. I told her that I was glad that she was alright and on the road to recovery. Then I left the room.

I suppose I have saved quite a few lives, being a paramedic. I have encountered several people on the edge of death, and have brought them back to a degree of health. I have done a couple cardiac arrests, where they were dead, and got a pulse back. Its very exciting to be able to do that. But if you are refering to saving someone from a hanging cliff or from a hold up or something, no, just medically.

Yes, when I was young I saved a friend from drowning, and later as a 911 operator, I helped save suicidal people from killing themselves (talked down a jumper) and helped direct the police on high speed pursuits, foot pursuits and dispatched their calls for help or assistance.

my neighbor was mowing his yard when he had a seizure and the mower almost ran over him when I moved it out of the way, check his breathing and called 911. He was foaming at the mouth and making these weird gurgling noises. The EMS guys said that if I hadn't of seen him he wouldn't have made it.

I'm not sure that I have, but I think that doing something as tiny as picking up a tennis ball that's just lying there on the middle of the sidewalk can possibly save someone else's life (and not even know it). And maybe it's even someone you know. Just think if you didn't pick up that tennis ball...

no, but i DID save my own life once. i was blowing up a baloon in my grandfathers garage when the baloon burst and a piece went down my throat. as i frantically gasped for air, i suddenly remembered a movie i'd seen in fourth grade class about how to save someone who was choking on a baloon. so i shoved my hand into my mouth as far as i could, barely grabbed a piece of the baloon and pulled it out. my sister walked in and saw me as i pulled the baloon out. she said i was already turning blue. toughest thing i ever did. i've hated baloons since. i wouldn't even let my kids be around them as they were growing up.
