If you keep him in a sling you can just go about your day and he will be soothed by your motion, and learn about the world around him by watching you do things.

As far as the fussiness is concerned, my baby loooooves being in her swing. She has one that rocks either side to side in a cradle motion or front to back like a traditional swing. At first i felt guilty putting her in it thinking as a mother I should be able to soothe her, but i soon realized if she didnt enjoy it she would let me know. She loooves to look up at the musical mobile as she is swinging. It is the Natures Touch Swing by Fisher Price.

Sing, read and talk to him. Do tummy time with some toys or a mirror for him to look into. Mirrors are actually great. Entertaining falls mostly on you but watch for signals of overstimulation. Walks outside in a sling/snuggly or stroller are great too.

I agree with the musical mobiles. I have to tell you, though, stay away from the pastels...cute for the baby's room, but he will really like the contrast of the bolder colors. We had a black and white and red clown set (from Discovery Toys), and our baby would giggle over that thing forever.

You can talk to him, sing to him, take him when you're doing chores, you can read to him.

Usually when he's staring at you and you responded, he won't be fussy though. You might want to watch out for colic signs if he is crying all the time.

You can get one of those play gyms. My son, at 1 week corrected age (he was born almost 3 months early) was already grabbing at the toys on his Fisher price musical one. They also have ones that have stuffed animals on them.

If you have the time and the inclination, then definitely hold him in your arms and rock him gently for as long as you can. I found my baby could never get enough attention and love.
When holding your baby be calm and serene because he can feel your moods and emotions. If you are distressed he can feel your distress.
