I suffered a traumatic brain injury after being rear ended by a negligent driver. I was unconscious for about one hour. When I came to I was in a county hospital my mother had to sign for me.
At first I was real quiet, in shock I suppose. My mother took me to the accident site and she took photos and took me home.
I kept asking what time is it, what day is it. Over and over not remembering I had just asked. I had severe loud ringing in my ears for about a month or two. I lost my short term memory for about 4 years. I had to write down directions to where I was going or I would revert back 10 years and go where I use to live.
Finally just "last year" I can remember phone numbers, addresses, zip codes all in my head, once again.
It has taken 9 years for me to get to this point.
Hopefully your brain will rewire itself faster than mine did.
You are in my prayers.

Depends on the type of head injury. Don't let it get you down. I had a bad injury (not a head one) which took ages to heal, but it did. We learn to adapt and cope with injury. Seek some advice from head injury specialists if you haven't done this already. Your GP should be able to advise you. Don't despair and get well soon.

what type of head injury? Gosh.... That's like asking what kind of coin you're holding in your hand! Did you bump it on a sofa or cabinet. Is there blood running down the side of your ear, or just a litttle ooze where it happened? Did you see a doctor, or are you your own doctor today?

See all the other answers. Gavin T. has given you the best answer. As he says it depends on the severity of the injury. his advise to ask your Doctor is well advised as they are more experienced in these matters than most of us who contribute to these question and answer sessions.

It can take a long time, especially if their a lot of damage done to the brain. Ask your doctor if he can give you a more precise answer.
