I haven't had A/C in my 1995 Mercedes E320 for the past two summers. The shop first replaced the A/C panel, but that didn't fix things. Next, they recommend fixing the hose, which they estimate at about $1,000. If that doesn't work, I'm facing a replacement of the compressor for around $2,500. I'm looking for the least expensive way to make this happen.

I have used bulk hose and crimp on ends. There are people that work on truck refrigerator units and Cab air conditioning that can fabricate any A/C hose out there. You are just not talking to the right people. Look up Truck A/C repair Aluminum welding is the key with the ends of your hose these guys can weld on barbs and crimp new rubber hoses and have you as cool as a Mercedes driver should be besides it is allergy time!.

holy cow............Drive the darn car to Mexico and get it fixed for about $400.00 to $450.00 USD total. I am sure of it. I checked with a friend of mine who own a Air conditing repair shop. This $400.00 to $450.00 USA will include the price of a used compresser, the compressor installation, hose change / repair (depending on what is needed depending on soldering, replacing it witha used hose, Freon fill up and warranty. In other words the whole total will cost around $450.00 USD. If worst to worst maybe another $50.00 for bushing, clamps etc if needed. If your compressor is fine and installed then the hose repair and freon etc will be about $250.00. The whole work will take about a day. Let me know if you are intrested.....It almost feels as if the shop you are dealing with is cleaning out your bank account......

You will have to dig in. Mercedes uses OEM parts on things like A/C compressors, hoses, etc.
This diagnosis seems crazy unless you had multiple problems like no power to compressor AND a leaky system. Find an auto A/C specialty shop. M-B dealers as well as foreign auto shops can be scammy.

Talk about giving you a wallet flush, Damn!...if you paid for a repair that didn't fix the problem, bring it back and demand they refund the $$$ or fix it. Sounds like they are just guessing...

Based on what you said...best to find a reputable repair shop that employs experienced techs instead of parts replacers.

Best bet is to go to a scrab yard. There are yards down here south of San Diego that will find the piece and install it for pennies on the dollar, maybe 300 bucks. Check it out, its a little know secret!

Go to your local A/C shop and have one made for you. Some auto parts stores will do the same.
