I have a home built Pentium 4 2.8ghz machine with 1gb of ram, running windows XP. Whenever I try to play a video file (most often an XVID file), the computer locks up and freezes. This occurs in windows media player, VLC, PowerDVD, and any other player I've tried. I've tried updating my codecs and my video card driver (ATI Radeon 7500) but that hasn't helped.

your computer may be too slow or you may need to download the new flahs version or you have a virus in which case buy or trial a virus protection program and scan your computer for them.
