TRAINING-- at home, mosque, temple, club, lodge, TV, books, etc.

One would have to get in to the head and brain to really understand the sickness.

I think human beings, especially males, are given a strong competitive and violent nature, like many other animals. It's a survival of the fittest thing. Things like suppressed instincts, frustration, insecurity, depression, etc, only fuel that nature. Plus there is a natural alertness towards anyone/thing that is different. So if you also happen to be "ignorant" (which is a relative term, depending upon the knowledge of the society you live in), the result is channeling all those urges onto something unacceptable, such as skin color, religion, etc. So it is a lot of different factors that can push someone into such crazy actions.

I know this will be unpopular, but I believe we should try our best to not hate racists and bigots. We should not allow such behavior, of course, but it would be better to try to educate as many as possible.

Good question. We should not get defensive when we see racism. It takes a narrow mind to think that way. By understanding this we can begin to change others. If we answer hate with hate, we only breed more hate. With knowledge we gain understandng and growth. That is why ignorance translates into hate. Ignorance is the absence of knowledge.

Well, a lot of it tends to swing on how they were raised. Ignorance breeds ignorance. A lot of these people stereotype, while very few have actually had a bad experience with the person/group of people/ race they choose to despise. Most of them are not capable of independent thought, they choose to be sheep because it's easier for them to deal with.

How do racists and bigots think? They think they are better than others, at least some others. It makes them feel powerful and secure in their supposed superiority.

I don't think it's that direct -

it's not that ignorance "translates into" hate, but that ignorance creates fear, and a common reaction to fear is hate.

I think it's because I think I'm better than everyone else. Really, I'm not a racist. I hate all races equally.

They think based on research, history, and how the two coexist as opposed to thinking only by emotion.

Everyone has some preudices - and that includes me and that includes you. It usually is something they are taught by watching the actions of the people who raise them. They believe it and don't know what they believe is wrong.

..These people think?

Racists generally see the world in Black and White terms and also have a siege mentality..ie, The Enemy is out their waiting to get 'Us'. 'tehy' is anyone who isn't, in our case, White, Western, Christian/Atheist or Anglo-European.

It must be a sad, sad life
