I read a case where a woman cut her babies arms off,yes VERY SICK.
She was on medication and had PPD and had her first child taken from her. At one point her pastor told her to stop taking the medication and pray for GOD to heal her.
NOW before you get your panties in a bunch, I am a christian and I believe people should utilize medicine.
She killed her baby, the drugs were helping her she stopped under the guidance of her pastor who has no medical training.
Do you think he should be charged with neglect for telling a mentally unstable person not to take their medicine then they committ murder ?

My answer is Yes they should be held accountable in some way UNLESS they have a liscence to practice medicine in that area

Yes, clergy should be held accountable in such cases. It's one thing to suggest to the people of the congregation to rely on the lord for their needs but it's quite another thing to instruct people to ignore specific medical instruction from a qualified professional physician.

In my mind there is no conflict by seeking medical help while at the same time praying for a healing.

Yes, everyone should be held accountable for their criminal actions.

Doing something in the name of religion, when it is against secular law, is no excuse. As long as we are careful not to go on a witch hunt and start making up laws just to punish people's religions.

That being said, it's also important to recogize that western medicine is not the only valid healing practice out there. But any competent holistic practitioner recognizes when it's time to call an MD.

There is no charge fo such an act.

He did not say he was a doctor.

He did not tell her to commit a crime.

He gave her advice and she took it but she was under no duress to do so.

In short, NO.

If you tell somebody to take to aspirins and call you in the morning and they bleed out over night because aspirin is an anti coagulent and he/she was a hemopheliac, should I charge you for trying to help them out?

For something to be a crime the action has to be knowingly and willfully done.

Your clergy man had no idea what the woman would do for certain and as you point out he is not educated enough act with anymore reason than he apparently did.

Sorry but that is just the way things are.

I am a Chrsitian and I beleive in healing, ( instant healing) but I also believe that God gave us Doctors to use for our well being.

Even one of the 12 was a doctor ( LUKE) and it appears Christ had nothing wrong with doctors and never said not to use them.

But of course there are religions that use no medical care, and one of the very important rights was that no law could be passed that would restrict the practice of religion.

I agree with you.

I am Catholic and I think it is terrible what the church has covered up all these years. Pedophile priests abusing young boys and girls and gay priests doing countless horrible things. It makes me sad. BUT , there are good and bad people all over. We just have to live our lives being the best that WE can be!

I agree and would never go to a church that has a simular pastor. Why is it that non-believers think all christians are this nutty to begin with? (I'm a christian but I'm not like that)
