Ford has redesigned the DPFE sensor on your engine. The part from the dealer is now made of a different material and has a vent installed to better handle the condensation from exhaust gases. If taken to the dealer a quick check with the scan tool will tell whether or not the DPFE sensor is showing the correct voltage reading at idle. There could have been moisture in the hoses, and at replacement it just blew it right up into the new sensor, thus ruining it.

bring it back to the original mechanic. the dpfe is related to the egr and something still isn't right. the dpfe measure the pressure differential when the egr is applied versus not applied. obviously it didn't fix the problem. give him another chance to fix his misdiagnosis or incomplete diagnosis. BTW, these are all common Ford problems and I wouldn't be surprised if they all went bad, I just hope he's not guessing at the problem and throwing parts at it.

I would try finding a mechanic who is SERIOUSLY familiar with Ford. I have a 2000 Ford Taurus. When I have problems with mine, that's what I do. So far, I've had no problems with him. Although, with one problem, he sent to the dealer instead. That was a good judgment call on his part, because he wasn't very comfortable with trying to fix it in this case. I can understand that.
