The term first gained use around the beginning of the twentieth century, and originally meant to do something with little or no preparation, just as cold turkey takes little to no preparation to serve.

I honestly have absolutely no idea but i would assume it would have something to do with the effects of going cold turkey, (ie the shakes and the goosepimples) which could be likened to dead plucked cold turkey?? Or maybe I have completly lost the plans!!lol

Well, I don't like quitting smoking cold turkey (I never succeed), and I don't like cold turkey. Warm that stuff up!!

It's just a saying that means to stop abruptly...it doesn't literally mean "cold turkey".
