The boy, under Japanese mandate, only males can inherit the throne. The issue was, if the princess had a girl, there wouldn't have been a new male heir to the throne, and the laws/traditions would have to have been changed.

No, I'd rather keep the tradition. The Japanese are very tradition-minded, and it is best to hold on to even the last evstages of a bygone age. This is something worth keeping.
