I've been playing around here for about a day, and at least 10 times I've seen questions posed by and for a group with a collective IQ lower than room temperature asking things like "Why do Atheists need a name?", "Why do stupid people believe in God?", etc. Good gravy.

Hi David -

You are completely correct about the lack of thought exhibited by most of the people on this site. I blame it on MTV and instant messaging :-;

The sad part is that most of these people are old enough to vote, but they can't understand any argument that takes more than once sentence to explain.

It makes me think of Churchill's famous statement "It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried." In other words, I'm glad that dictators are even dumber than the people on this site.

It can be particularly frustrating to post a thoughtful question, only to receive but a single answer, or to receive answers from people who only read the first sentence of your question.

Here's a suggestion: find someone who has posted interesting questions, then look up all the other questions they have posted. Meanwhile, continue to send feedback to Yahoo.

I have heard that there is some sort of similar site for NPR listeners, but haven't pursued it yet. Maybe I'll get serious about finding it after writing this!

Between bouts of frustration, I find it interesting to research the few interesting questions I discover, and to receive some tidbits of feedback from like-minded individuals. Plus posting the occasional sarcastic zinger when frustration overwhelms me.

Well, you are of course free to raise the bar of excellence here with your contributions. Just because most of the Q&A's here aren't from the high-IQ set doesn't mean that high-IQ Q&A's aren't welcome.

Personally, I usually try to give an intelligent, reasoned answer, even if the original question was not the brightest. I think I'm succeeding...my percentage of "chosen as best answer" is at least greater than pure chance.

So go ahead, and pour your brain into the answers you give (and the questions you ask). Best answers are worth 10 points, that should be incentive enough, shouldn't it? :-)

P.S. Atheists only need a label to distinguish themselves from theists, and stupid people believe in god because they can't separate fantasy from testable science. B-]

That's why it's fun, even though the stupid questions get a little annoying - you'll learn to either ignore them or come at them with a sly answer. But the good questions are what get you hooked.
