Remember these?
The Russians were going to invade.
We were all going to be blown up by atom bombs.
Aids was going to kill EVERYONE who had sex.
The Y2K bug (planes falling out of the sky etc).
Nostradamus - the millenium was end of the world.
Bird flu, or this-that-and-the-other flu will kill us all.
A giant asteroid is going to smack the earth and send us the way of the dinosaurs... in a few thousand years.

For anyone too young for this stuff, I promise you that there was no doubt whatsoever that we were going to get killed by either nuclear bombs or Aids. It was scary being a teenager in the 80's!

Strangely enough. We're still here. But wait! There are new threats at hand - global warming and terrorism. Lock your doors, hide under the sheets. The world is comming to an end. Again.

I've had enough! I'm starting the - we're ok campaign - right here and now! Who's in?

good idea i'm in. All this doomsday stuff only exists because it is easier to control people if they are afraid. They use things such as terrorism as a way to check up on us. We need ID cards... "to protect us against terrorists" we need CCTV "To protect our children against paedophiles". Lets forget all this rubbish, global warming isn't going to destroy the world it will just alter it slightly and we will get used to it. Terrorists may be dangerous but they are not going to kill everyone. I'm pretty sure the situation at the time of the cuban missile crisis was a lot worse than the world at the moment

I stoped listening to this storeis when I relised two things.

1) My grandmother use to say back in 1950 people said the world was going to end. She siad all over life people always thought the world was comming to and end. Remember the Waco shootings?, thouse people thought the world was about to end.

2) If the world was comming to and end is there anything you could do about it? I figure there is nothing any of us could do it is in God's hand so don't worry about it.

Count me in plus I had the extra trauma of moving statues (in Ireland), oh and my grandmother always told us to make sure we had loads of salt (never knew why but I used to sneakily put salt into the shopping trolley every week). However, my bemused mother got my blood pressure checked!

Too right, send me a badge mate.... it's all about keeping us in line. Seem to remember that as an adolescent I was sure I was doomed to a life as a blindman... never happened though.
