1 check to see if any value, often these are worthless due to the company in mind being worthless. Last time i used the code number (something like CUSSP number?) to locate the company and called them. If you have that number than SEC-Edgar should be able to identify the company for you.
2 if bearer certificates (probably not if so recent) then whoever has them has the shares, if not I guess contact the company for their thoughts on how to proceed.
