x(y+3)=25 factor the x out
x= 25/(y+3) isolate x by dividing by (y+3)

you're done! the reason you can't get a single number is because you have two variables in one equation.

factor the x out of the first half of the equation to get:
x(y+3)=25
then divide both sides by (y+3)
x=25/(y+3)
