You can apply for an easement or you can get a good lawyer and make whoever wont give you right away do it. I know a couple people in this situation right now myself.

If the proper is truly landlocked, then what you are talking about is an easement by necessity.
There are specific laws in each state that govern such easements. You can talk to the adjoining land-owner and attempt to negotiate an easement yourself, which is the simplest solution. Or talk to a licensed attorney about your other options.

You need to apply for an "easement" for a right-of-way to access your property. You would begin this process at the town or city hall of the town where the property is located.

have to purchase an easement......sorry, but you should have considered that prior to buying/selling...or maybe a helicopter??
