If you installed Mozilla Firefox, a Virus Blocker/Popup Blocker, then that might be the problem. Add yahoo.com and messenger.com to your allowed list for popups.

My guess the alert was from Yahoo Messenger.

Either you don't have it turned on or you turned off the alert feature.
